Christo & Jeanne-Claude

Book Cover

The mandate of this class project was to re-create a book cover for Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s work. The constraint was trying to come up with a creative way to represent their work through a simple book cover. I decided to challenge myself and create a book cover made out of fabric to represent their use of fabric in most of their masterpieces, specifically targeting The Gates located in New York. The approach was to give a twist to the common book covers, to actually create a meaningful and creative book cover. On top of that, an interactive Ipad app was created.

The making of the cover

The book includes two covers. The inside cover is the title as well as an image covering the front which is there project called The Gates. The cover on top is created out of orange fabric, and on the spine has “Christo & Jeanne-Claude” embroidered to look like there logo. I wanted the book to be interactive, since the moment you take off the fabric, it unravels a gateway to there project.
